Port Douglas is situated on a narrow strip of land between the bay of Dixon and the Pacific Ocean. Here the Great Barrier Reef comes closest to the mainland. When cross the Daintree River on the old ferry, sliding along the rope, before getting into the real jungle, covering almost religious feeling. Dense tropical forest hangs over the banks of the Daintree, where crocodiles are not asleep (which, incidentally, can reach 9 m in length).
In most of the primeval forest that existed for millions of years, you can see the most incredible animals: a glowing green frog with claws, tentacles, which climbs a tree, opossum, gliding from one tree to another, marsupial cats, and in April – glowing mushrooms that grow on tree trunks.
